Baobab Tree Planting Guide Easy to Follow
Prepare the Location and Soil
One of the most important things to get ready before growing the Baobabs is the right location. The amount of sun exposure would determine how fast Baobabs grow. That is why, the place where Baobabs could get at least 6 hours of direct sunlight is the best one.
Aside from the place with maximum sun exposure, the well-drainage and sandy soil should be prepared. The best mixture of soil to grow Baobabs must include soil, sand, and compost with the 1:2:3 ratio. If the soil is not right and the sun exposure is not enough, the leaves might turn yellow.Plant Seeds or Cuttings
There are two ways to grow Baobabs, you can do it by planting the seeds or doing it with cuttings. If using the seeds, make sure you soak the seeds for one day in warm water at room temperature. But before starting to plant them, the seeds must be dried first.
Actually, the low germination rate of this plant is not that much of a problem. You just need to sow three times more seeds than you usually need. Keep the minimum soil temperature at 15 degrees Celsius after sowing the seeds 1-2 inches deep.
Baobab tree planting guide requires patience as the main key. It is because the germination takes a week to a month. Even in some rare cases, you have to wait several months just for its germination since it is sporadic. And when you see the roots are formed, get ready to lift the plants and separate them in different pots.
But if you do consider growing Baobabs from cuttings, take the cuttings with at least three leaves there. Before planting them, make sure the cuttings are dry. The dry cuttings are considered safer as it could reduce the risk of stem rot and fungal attacks.Water and Fertilise the Plant
One of the advantages of growing Baobabs is that they don't require too much water. After planting the seeds or cuttings, you can water them without overwatering. The secret of well-growth Baobabs is keeping the soil evenly moist but not too wet.
Liquid succulent fertiliser with low nitrogen and high potassium is recommended only for young Baobabs. Also, potted Baobabs mostly need this kind of fertiliser every month to keep in their best condition. But for the Baobabs grown on the ground, you don’t need to fertilise them.Take Care of the Plant
Baobabs are not that hard to grow and take care of as long as they get enough warmth and sunlight. That is why this plant should be kept out of the winter, and place it indoors when winter has come. Keep the temperature at 10 degrees Celsius or above. Stop fertilising them during winter, and water sparingly.
Baobab tree is basically easy to grow and its planting guide will lead you to rich green leaves and super thick trunk. Do a lot of care too if you want your Baobabs to flourish with strong branches and produce edible fruits.
